Frequently Asked Questions

How Can Insulation Save Money and Energy in My Home or Business?

For the average U.S. household about half of the energy costs go toward heating and cooling. By combining the right amount and type of insulation, these costs can be reduced by up to 50%. Installing effective insulation, and energy efficient windows that are appropriate for your climate will help you save energy and money.

What are the Benefits of an Energy Efficient Insulation?

  • Reduced drafts
  • Even room temperatures (no cold or hot rooms)
  • Reduced noise transmission into your home
  • Savings on heating and cooling bills
  • Moisture control in your home leading to longer life of your home's building materials and reduced incidence of mold and mildew

Why is Insulation Important?

The proper type and level of insulation for your home provides a barrier minimizing heat flow through the walls, ceiling, and floor. A more comfortable home and reduced heating and cooling costs will be achieved. The proper Installation of insulation is as important as the type and level of insulation because gaps, voids, compressions, and moisture all combine to reduce the effectiveness of insulation and allow unconditioned air to enter your home. See the explanation of heat loss.

Is Sprayed Foam Flammable?

This material won't support fire or flame and has reduced fire damage when compared to other types of insulation. The material will not support flame upon removal of the fire source, so it will no contribute fuel in case of fire.

I'm Concerned About Mold Growth?

Sprayed Foam is a breathing foam, and any moisture in the building's concrete or lumber can escape through the insulation as the building dries out, thus eliminating any risk of rot or mildew. It offers no food value so it won't support mold or bacteria growth.

Will Mice or Termites Eat the Foam?

The Foam Insulation offers no food value for insects or animals, but it does not have a sufficient blocking ability should a mice decide to gnaw through the material.

Will the Foam Absorb Water?

Sprayed Foam may look like a sponge but it actually repels water. If placed in water it will float and on removal it will dry rapidly and lose none of its insulating properties.

What are Air and Vapor Barriers?

Air barriers are any material used to prevent the movement of air through walls, ceilings, and floors.

Vapor barriers keep moisture, which is often contained in air, from passing through and condensing in walls, floors, and ceilings.

Air and vapor barriers must be installed in a manner appropriate to your climate region to work correctly.

Why is Air Sealing Important?

Ceiling, wall, and floors with insulation generally provide barriers to outside air coming into the home. Small gaps, cracks, and spaces that are not closed up will allow outside air from entering temperature-controlled spaces. You will feel air infiltration from larger gaps as drafts that make a room uncomfortable. To detect smaller cracks that affect the energy efficiency of your home, you may need to hire a professional contractor who uses a blower door and other tools to determine the location of air leakage.

How Long Does it Take to Cure?

The foam is created in seconds after spraying. You can watch it expand within seconds to 100 times its original volume, literally before your eyes. It completely cures within a few minutes.

Do I Have any Environmental Worries?

No, the product is environmentally safe. There are no harmful emissions and is safe for both you and the environment. In fact, it is recommended for use in homes for people with environmental sensitivities.

What Does All Season's Foam Insulation Look Like?

The foam is a water-based formula that contains no formaldehyde, CFCs or HCFCs. It looks like a sponge cake because it is made up of millions of tiny cells. The cells are filled with air and provide permanent control of air and airborne moisture movement. The foam contains no materials that emit harmful gases.

What is an Energy Star Home?

By achieving the EPA Energy Star Home Certification, homeowners can qualify for an energy efficient mortgage. All Season's Foam Insulation meets those standards. For more information on energy efficient mortgages and how they can allow buyers to qualify for larger mortgages, see the Energy Star web site section.
